The Volkswagen New Beetle is a compact car, manufactured by Volkswagen from 1998 to even today. With its production run spanning through 2 decades, it has gone though several facelifts.

The New Beetle Cup was a promotion effort by Volkswagen to make the Beetle look cool. It was raced in a Beetle spec series and in the 2000 Millennium Cup.

Unlike the original 1999 New Beetle, the Beetle Cup got its engine from the Mk3 Golf. According to some sources 76 examples were built, making the Cup rarer than its later road car counterpart. Despite coming with a stripped out interior, it still weighed a hefty 3000lbs. Good thing, that the 2.8L VR6 had been tuned to output a little over 200bhp.

After the Cup had ran its course in 2001, they just disappeared. No one knows, how many still exist today. Some were converted to race in amateur open-spec racing, but the Cup was simply too slow to compete in any real racing series.
