Description
The NSU 1000TT, a stretched version of the Prinz with a 4 cylinder transverse aircooled engine behind the rear axle. The car turned immediately into a favourite for touring car races, and a number of versions appeared. The 1200 TT had an enlarged engine, while the 1000 TTS was further tuned to allow the car to stay in the 1-litre class. The TTS had twin Solex Carbs, wider wheels and front disc brakes. An oil cooler was placed underneath the front license plate. In standard form the car had 70 BHP, but could be tuned up about 85.
Later privately prepared versions used a 1300 engine and as such became known as the 1300 TTS. The best known tuner of all was Siegfried Spiess. A 1300 TTS driven by Willi Bergmeister became the 1974 German hillclimb champion (aptly translates as Bergmeister, so what’s in a name) in the class up to 1300 cc. Of all TT variants about 65000 were produced.
