The Mazda RX-7 is a sports car that was assembled and produced by the Japanese automaker Mazda from 1978 to 2002. The first RX-7 featured an 1,146 cc (69.9 cu in) twin-rotor Wankel rotary engine and a front-midship, rear-wheel drive layout. The RX-7 replaced the RX-3, with both models sold in Japan as the Mazda Savanna.
This version is the mitical RX-7 that won the prestigeous 24h of Spa Francorchamps of the 1981 European Endurance Championship.
Was the first rotatrori engine wining a 24h race.
Nobody count with the RX-7.
The grid was filled up with 3.0L Capris, 530i BMWs and V8 Camaros, al of them more powerfull than the little RX-7.
Was a tought race, with a lot of rain and after pushing the limits, Tom Walkinshaw and Pierre Diuedonne (only to drivers!) won over the only 26 cars that finished (55 started).
This is my tributte.
